MK11 Ranked/competitive complaint thread (no gear talk here pls)

I’ve yet to complete the massive Steam download, and now it seems others may want to wait it out as well. Despite patches and fixes the game is still very broken. First hand accounts from friends and users have reported issues mainly relating to lag, but these were brushed off as “you’re probably playing on European servers from South Africa Here’s a list of some of the more common issues with the game. Online is basically unplayable due to the memory leaks and the lag. It’s been two weeks since the game launched, we got a 15GB patch yes you read that right 15GB which didn’t really improve anything, instead it caused more bugs. As mentioned above, most lag issues were considered a poor connection from South Africa to abroad, but those excuses seem irrelevant now as most users deemed the netcode “horrendous.

Mortal Kombat X review

MKX continues NetherRealm Studio’s brutal legacy in style with the finest installment in the long-running franchise to date. Before sitting down to play this game, the distinct possibility that it would suck haunted me. Why you may ask? I had the great misfortune of playing Mortal Kombat: Komplete in and it left me high and dry and completely Kompletely? It was a sad time indeed.

Online 3. Versus 4. Ranked Match The win streak doesn’t break when you Like almost every aspect of this game, the matchmaking is purely inferior to its.

Mortal Kombat X has tons of polish, unique mechanics, and the genre’s best story mode, but it doesn’t do enough to keep players invested if they weren’t already planning on it. Mortal Kombat is many things: a gaming industry icon, a fighting genre mainstay, and really, really bloody. And entrails. Possibly a spleen. But underneath all the gory excess is a damn good fighting game, one that balances mechanical depth with crowd-pleasing presentation.

Though it doesn’t always do the best job of preparing you for battle, Mortal Kombat X is enough outrageously violent fun to justify a little self-education, provided you’ve got enough patience. If you’ve taken your lumps in Mortal Kombat 9 or Injustice, MKX will feel familiar: 3D fighters brawl on a 2D plane at a fast, unrelenting pace, with plenty of special moves, flashy combos, and bone-splintering X-Ray attacks being traded back and forth.

The somewhat stiff lateral movement and blocking via a button instead of backing away from your opponent can initially feel strange if you’re typically a Street Fighter person, but any discomfort will fade away after a few matches and some trips to the pause screen, which smartly displays both players’ special move inputs right up front.

Mortal Kombat X has been out for almost a month now and it’s a fantastic fighting game. I do have some complaints about the game, but most of them are just fanboy, nitpicky type stuff. The game is packed with content that has kept me very busy for quite some time. There is one thing however about the game that just isn’t as fun as it could be. That would be the online play, mainly ranked matches. I don’t remember exactly what my record is but last time I checked it was around wins and 25 losses.

I am not a great player by any means. If a score of 10 is Perfect Legend and a 1 is a scrublord, full auto Jaqui spammer, I would put myself around a 6.

Fighting games can be tough to get into. As the team behind one of the most popular fighting-game series around, NetherRealm is well-aware of the impediments some players have to getting into them. It just seems super-daunting just even thinking approaching trying to learn how to play a fighting game. It’s very similar to fighting games. NetherRealm wants players to have a decent grasp of the game before they get there, however.

Instead, Edwards points to the other ways NetherRealm gets players to invest in fighting games: By giving them lots of content that just happens to involve playing and improving at the game itself. That transition is easier said than done, however, as there is a major difference between enjoying a fighting game by beating up computer opponents and playing online against other learned players. Edwards acknowledges the transition can be tough. Over the years, NetherRealm has experimented with different ways to do this, and many of the incentives for players to play against others are back in Mortal Kombat Once again, Kirtiz says the team is hoping to keep players engaged online by being more up-front about how their opponent is matched against them.

This isn’t too different from most games that match players against each other, but the way NetherRealm surfaces this data more readily makes the expectations the game has of your more clear. We want to give positive encouragement to the players that are usually kind of standoffish when it comes to a ranked system. Another way to keep players coming back to multiplayer is to offer them something besides a higher matchmaking rank for playing.

GGPO short for Good Game Peace Out is middleware designed to help create a near- lagless online experience for various emulated arcade games and fighting games. The program was created by Tony Cannon, co-founder of fighting game community site Shoryuken and the popular Evolution Championship Series. Video game companies have also implemented a licensed version of GGPO. Rather than waiting for input to be received from other players before simulating the next frame, GGPO predicts the inputs they will send and simulates the next frame without delay using that assumption.

The hope is that the predictions will be correct most of the time, allowing smooth play with minimal sudden changes to the game state. The client program can allow players to manually adjust native input delay in high-ping situations, either creating a possibly-jerky yet accurate representation or a smoother game with input delay.

The excitement is back. The gore is back. It’s not banned this time. But it’s not for kiddies. Sweet, lovely, video game gore. Do not scroll down if this bothers you. Considering previous versions of Mortal Kombat had graced arcades, all manner of consoles, PCs, Amigas and even had the dubious distinction of being violent enough to encourage Congress to create the Entertainment Software Rating Board, whose ratings are still used in the United States today, you’d think one of the earlier titles would have been the most lucrative for their makers.

But it wasn’t until the other week that Ed Boon, co-creator of the series, announced on the Major Nelson podcast – run by Microsoft’s director of programming – that Mortal Kombat MK9 , the reboot of the franchise which was banned in Australia for a couple of years, was the best selling title in the franchise to date. It’s not only a mark of how much the accessibility of Mortal Kombat was missed – the timing window for combo strings, special moves, wake-up attacks and other staples of fighting game mechanics have always been more lenient in Mortal Kombat – but an indication of how much NetherRealm’s efforts in entwining a coherent, playable story into a fighting game was appreciated.

Having proved the reboot wasn’t a one-hit wonder with Injustice: Gods Among Us , MKX now carries the weight of expectation, not just in the delivery of a plausible story mode – a standard not levied against any fighting game in the last three decades – but also the revitalisation of Mortal Kombat as a franchise and, more importantly, a force on the competitive circuit. Most will start with the story mode, considering the success of its predecessor, although MKX ‘s continuation of the Earthrealm-Outworld-Netherrealm triumvirate lacks much of the charm, cheer and, most notably, length of MK9.
